The crest of John Villers Shelley appears on many buildings in the parish including Woodlands Farm, ‘Shelley Villas’ and ‘Old Kennelwood Cottage’ (pictured).
The estate dogs and their keepers lived at the Horney Common end of the Park, and the farm now known as ‘Marshalls Farm’ was shown as ‘The Kennels’ on the 1897 25-inch map.
The cottage after the long tenancy of the Hart family fell into disrepair and was purchased in about 1984 by Mr and Mrs. B.D. King, who lovingly restored it and made additions in keeping with its Victorian origins.
The surrounding woodland was badly damaged by the hurricane of October, 1987.
