About

Maresfield History Resource project

The Maresfield History Resource is a project from the Maresfield Conservation Group to make the significant archive of material collected by the Maresfield Historical society online.

The resource includes:

  • Hundreds of historical photographs of Maresfield and the area
  • A growing number of articles and stories about Maresfield’s history, including buildings, people and events
  • A collection of online historical maps with interactive navigation and the ability to compare them with today’s Maresfield
  • Digitised archive copies of books, published articles and research on Maresfield
  • Digitised transcripts of the Parish Registers of Births, Marriages and Deaths from 1538 to 1694

Contribute to the project

If you have stories, memories, or photographs of Maresfield, or if you have additional information about any of the photographs and stories, then please get in touch by email at history@maresfield.org – we’d love to hear from you.

This is intended to be a community site, maintained and enhanced by residents of Maresfield past and present.

If you’d like to help curate and edit the site, or are interested in researching a particular topic, then please do email us – it’s been put together using the WordPress platform, making it super-easy to create, edit and publish articles and photographs on the site.

Acknowledgements

This site would not have been possible without the significant efforts of the Maresfield Historical Society, which sadly closed down in 2025 – their donation of the archive material to the Maresfield Conservation Group formed the basis of the development of this online resource. Special thanks to Carol Jeffree, Jenny Eadon, and Ceri Jenkins for helping with this transfer.

Much content has also been based on the late Betty Turner’s excellent 1991 book “Maresfield”, which is sadly now out of print – but a digitised copy is available on our Resources page.

Finally, there are hundreds of images on the site which have been gathered over the years by the Maresfield Historical Society, with very little information about the source – if any of the images are yours, then please get in touch, and we’ll be happy to credit you.
