Picture circa 1935 shows the wedding breakfast to celebrate the marriage of Emily Holmes and Albert Miller.
Albert Miller was one of the sons of Joseph Miller the local builder. J. Miller & Sons still traded in the village in the 1990s, the business carried on by Bill and Robin, grandsons of the founder.
Mr Miller snr bought Chapel Field, Five Ash Down about 1931 and applied to Uckfield Rural District Council to build forty cottages in the field but was refused planning permission. Three of his four sons were however allowed to build a house each on the field.
Albert and William Joseph Miller (snr) spent their spare time building themselves 1/2 Diamond Cottages which were completed about 1934. Charlie Miller built himself a house in the field after the Second World War.
