The Parish Stocks and Pound have been lost for a century but a more recent loss has been two ornamental wrought iron lamps that vanished in the late 1980’s without trace – these were replaced by the Maresfield Conservation Group.
The first one was erected at the entrance to the recreation ground in 1897 and the remaining inscription on a concrete pedestal says the ground was given by Hervey Percell to celebrate Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee.
The second one was on the south end of the cemetery wall, again a plaque remains telling us the light was placed there in 1902 to commemorate the Coronation of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra.
One original wrought iron lamp remains on the church wall near the war memorial.

Theft of the Parklands post box
The Evening Argus reported on 11th January, 1990 that Parklands post box had disappeared without trace overnight. The red box was set in 2 ft of concrete and all that remained was the hole in the ground. The value of the box was given at £100.
The village public telephone box used to be sited outside the old village post office but was moved to Parklands Estate when it was built after the Second World War. It was thought there was more need for it on the new site and also that as the traffic had so greatly increased it was too noisy in its present position.
